I'm a teaching assistant at a London secondary school. I set up this blog when I realised that my school is not even slightly interested in educating the special needs children. As a result of my genuine desire to help my students, I am constantly evaluating old methods, coming up with new ones and all this up until now was casually ignored or I was left to do them myself. Now they are being silenced. The title is a nod to the idea (Mad Woman in the Attic) that TAs are inferior to "real teachers" and so our views are not being heard and our students are as a result suffering. I imagine there are many out there like me, dissatisfied with the education state comprehensives like mine give to their special needs students, so here is a platform where any of you can share your experiences and calls for change.
So here are my twin aims: empower TAs, and bring about progress in the education of special needs students in mainstream education.
If words matter at all, what I write should change something.
